KARDIA - occupational health care services

We offer solution

Current legislature of EU and Czech Republic places greater responsibility for employee healthcare on employers. Thus, besides health insurance payments, the employer is burdened with full responsibility for ensuring and covering preventive employee health care (OHC). Employees of our Department of Specialist Operations are among the top specialists in the individual fields concerned. The composition of the teams that provide clients with OHS thus reflect the clients real needs. We determine what, in your case, is the extent of minimal employee medical care; and what options exist for extending this care beyond the necessary legislative framework.

When providing even minimal OHC, we create a functioning system whose complexity corresponds to the incidence of risks and factors that affect employee health, and which carries the advantage of a high-quality OHC provider.

These advantages include especially:

  • greater employee satisfaction with the work environment and conditions
  • specialist and independent assessment of compliance with valid regulations
  • prevention of medical problems that the employer could be held responsible for in the future
  • clear decrease in the occurrence of sick leave

Legislative framework

Every employer is obliged to conclude a contract on occupational health care (OHC) with a health care facility that is independent of the employer concerned (individual employees are not permitted to chose their physician for OHC). The range of OHC is defined by the Decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs No. 145/1988 Coll. on the Convention on Occupational Health Services (International Labour Organization No. 161).

Major tasks of occupational health care are based on this convention as follows:

  • Determine and assess the risks to health at work
  • Supervise factors in the working environment and working practices that could affect employees’ health, including sanitary facilities
  • Provide consultancy on work planning and organization, including workplace arrangement, selection, maintenance and condition of machines and other equipment, and the materials used for work
  • Participate in the development of working practice improvement programs and tests and the assessment of new equipment from the health point of view
  • Provide consultancy on health, safety and hygiene at work, and ergonomics and individual and collective protective aids
  • Supervise employees’ health at work, support work adjustment to employees
  • Participate in occupational physiotherapy measures
  • Cooperate in providing information, training and education in health and hygiene at work, and ergonomics
  • Cooperate in organizing first aid
  • Participate in the analysis of the labour accident rate and occupational diseases

The basic guidelines of occupational health care are defined by the act No. 20/1966 Coll. on National Health Care, as amended; Act No. 258/2000 Coll. on Public Health Protection, as amended; Act No. 155/2000 (The Labour Code) and Act No. 48/1997 on Public Health Insurance.
The Conditions for Work Categorization are stipulated by Decree No. 89/2001 Coll. and further specified by Government Order No. 178/2001 Coll. on Conditions for Employee Health Protection at Work.

The principles of occupational health care

The basic condition of quality occupation health services is a simultaneous knowledge of the following three factors that have influence on the employees: the character of work, working conditions and current health status of the individual.  Essence of occupational health_01

Knowledge of work conditions
We acquire detailed knowledge of the work environment, the type of work and operations involved and their effect on employee´s health via regular inquiries and checks at the workplace. This investigation is conducted by an expert on the risks involved. This is why our department consists of specialists in the fields of occupational hygiene, occupational medicine, psychology, clinical medicine, occupational physiotherapy, and hygiene. All have long-term experience with preventive employee healthcare and know how to provide it so that it is advantageous to all sides involved. These employees will regularly conduct surveillance of work conditions and possible risks that employees are exposed to.

Knowledge of health status
The widest and legislatively most stipulated method of determining employee health status is the preventive medical check-up. For this purpose, we have created a compact system that guarantees the same quality of medical check-ups throughout the Czech Republic.
Since Kardia started operating in the field of preventive employee healthcare, we have created in accordance with our clients´ needs a Network of contractual physicians throughout the Czech Republic.  This network currently includes more than 400 physicians in over 250 towns in the Czech Republic. The extent of medical OHS check-ups is determined by KARDIA´s specialists. The frequency of these check-ups is given by law.

Anylysis, consultant services
Determining deficiencies in the workplace and in employee health conditions without consequently proposing and introducing measures for their improvement makes no sense for the employer.  Thus, our aim is to create a system whereby the client is regularly provided with results, information and consultations about employee medical care and health status.  At the same time, we pass on our expert knowledge to employees so that they themselves can be motivated to improve their work environment. Basic consultant services are thus provided directly during inquiries at the workplace. These range from ergonometric recommendations to instructions on how to proceed in cases of sudden medical problems arising at work. We co-operate actively in the implementation of the measures recommended to employers, thus facilitating the work of the client’s personnel or security employees.

Extension beyond basic OHS provisions:

On a contractual basis, we can ensure an extension that involves mainly the following modules:

  • Extended Psychology Consultant Services
  • Preventive examination of visual system at workplace
  • Procuration in case of any contact with Public Health Authorities
  • Vaccination all over Czech Republic against influenza
  • Extended Consultant Services
  • Measuring at ergonomics and physiology of work
  • Analysis of factors leading to worker´s  sick leave
  • Individual health care programs
